Cape Town to Plettenberg Bay cycle route

A route to establish the Western Cape as the trail capital of Africa, with a safe, scenic cycling trail from Cape Town to Plettenberg Bay that will accommodate experienced to beginner riders and include challenging mountain trails, scenic forest single track, jeep track and road. Sounds like a dream! But it has been proposed and seems to be on the books to foster increased tourism opportunities and lead to a healthier lifestyle and social society.
The Minister of Economic opportunities Alan Winde said, “This project opens up the possibility of growing the cycling economy – including in accommodation, bike servicing and restaurants – along the full length of the route. Through the route, we are aiming to link up some of the region’s most beautiful small towns, stimulating additional economic activity at key stops. The route will act as a catalyst drawing visitors to the region, who will in turn explore areas surrounding the cycling route. This increased economic activity will drive new employment opportunities for residents.”
The complete route is part of a five year plan. The goal is to have the first 160km phase between Plettenberg Bay and Mossel Bay completed in the next two years, this being only small part of the proposed 520km. The Pedal Power association hopes to add this “Cape-to-Plett” to other cycling events like the Cape Town Cycle Tour and the Cape Epic.
Well we hope that this new route “Cape-to-Plett” brings in International and local tourist to tick off their “to do list (bucket list), one of the most coolest and beautiful routes in South Africa. Let’s hold thumbs for this amazing project.

CABS Car Hire looks forward to this amazing project and will keep track of it to keep our customers informed.
