Atlantic steam train trip

You come to Cape Town and want to find something different to do! Well the Atlantic steam train day trip from Cape Town to Simon’s Town is a great day out that you will always remember for years to come.

Atlantic Rail is a private steam locomotive class 24 that was built in 1949, it pulls vintage wooden bodied coaches dating from 1922 to 1938 with one being a lounge car with full cash bar service. The train departs Cape Town station at 10:30 and runs past the famous Newlands Rugby and Cricket grounds to Muizenberg, from where it runs along the ocean through to Kalk Bay, Fish Hoek, Glencairn and the final destination Simons Town at 12:30. Here the passengers can get off and have food at one of the restaurants, stroll around or hit the beach overlooking the naval dockyard. The train then returns along the same route back at 15:15 arriving back at Cape Town station at 16:55. Passengers can get off at Kalk Bay with prior arrangements made when booking the tickets.

Prices for adults is R250 and children (3-12) R150. Booking is essential (even a few months beforehand).
